Atopy refers to having an allergic constitution. Atopic individuals have a tendency to develop allergies to allergens in their environment. Children whose parents or relatives have an allergic condition have a higher risk of developing an allergic condition themselves. When this allergic tendency develops in the skin, it is called atopic dermatitis.
