Comedogenic products block pores, preventing the pore's contents from being released. We call these pores, blocked with excess sebum (oil), dirt and dead skin cells, comedones. Comedones are the precursor to pimples; they can be open or closed, and are considered a precursor to acne. Comedogenic products can increase the formation of comedones in people prone to oiliness, acne and comedones, leading to breakouts or worsening an existing condition. For these skin types, we recommend choosing non-comedogenic moisturisers, sunscreens and make-up products.
