Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH) is a condition characterised by small, pinhead-sized white spots on the skin. It's usually seen on sun-exposed areas, particularly the arms and legs. It's associated with the ageing process and the effects of the sun on the skin. It's more common in women but can occur in both sexes.
Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis isn't a serious condition requiring treatment, but it can be a cosmetic concern. Treatment options are limited. Certain creams, retinoic acid, peels, microdermabrasion and laser treatments can be used. However, the effectiveness of these treatments varies from person to person. The most reliable thing you can do to prevent the number of IGH lesions increasing is sun protection.
