Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the application of red or infrared light to the skin and tissue using low-energy laser or LED sources. This light stimulates mitochondria within cells, increasing energy production (ATP); this triggers renewal and repair processes in the skin.
The main effects PBM provides
Cell renewal
Reduced inflammation
Increased collagen production
Accelerated natural healing processes
PBM is used for many conditions. These include neurological conditions, wound healing, orthopaedic conditions, pain management and inflammatory conditions affecting different systems. In aesthetic dermatology, it's used for a range of indications including hair loss, supporting wound healing, an anti-inflammatory effect in conditions such as rosacea and acne, and skin rejuvenation.
