Scabies is an itchy, contagious condition caused by a parasite called Sarcoptes scabiei, presenting with a rash on the skin. Scabies is a parasitic condition transmitted from person to person through close contact. Specific skin lesions and itching that worsens at night are typical. It presents with a rash in areas such as the webs of the fingers, the inner wrists, the armpits, around the breasts and navel, and the genital area.
Treatment is planned based on the person's age and the extent of involvement. Other people the person has been in close contact with should also be treated, even if they show no symptoms. Alongside skin treatment, it's also important to clean clothing, bedding, sofa covers, towels and similar items that have been used.
